Abstract: As the basin-controlling fault on the eastern boundary of the Hetao Fault Depression Zone, the Helingeer Fault intersects with the northern margin fault of the Ordos Block in its southern segment, occupying a special tectonic location. Therefore, determining its latest active age will be conducive to the comprehensive evaluation of seismic hazard zones and tectonic transition relationships in the Hetao Fault Zone. Based on the combined method of shallow seismic exploration and borehole joint geological sections, this study investigates the latest active age of the southern segment (Gonglama-Shangtucheng) of the Helingeer Fault, which is located on the eastern boundary of the Hetao Fault Depression Zone. Considering the borehole stratigraphic chronology samples and regional Quaternary research results comprehensively, the Helingeer Fault has dislocated the strata formed since the Late Pleistocene, making it a Late Pleistocene active fault. Combined with the studies on regional deep seismic reflection profiles and seismic gaps, the Helingeer Fault is an upper crust-scale fault with a certain earthquake-generating capacity. Furthermore, the eastern segment of the Daqingshan Piedmont Fault (which intersects with the Helingeer Fault) and its adjacent areas constitute a seismic gap identified through the integration of multiple factors. Consequently, the Helingeer Fault is a potential seismogenic structure for moderate-strong earthquakes in the region that cannot be ignored. -
